Andrew Watson was born in Glasgow, Scotland on the 14th of October, 1881.
He was the captain of the first ever official international football match, which was between Scotland and England.
Watson also played for Queen’s Park FC, a Scottish amateur club. He made his debut for them at the age of 16.
He was the first black player to be selected for the Scotland national team.
Watson retired from football in 1902, at the age of 21.
After his retirement, he became a referee and later an administrator for the Scottish Football Association.
In 2009, Watson was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
He is also a member of the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest living footballers which was compiled by Pele.
Andrew Watson died on the 28th of December, 1915, at the age of 34.
He was survived by his wife and two children.
